Some weddings feel like stepping into a Wes Anderson film—quirky, chic, and delightfully unpredictable. Jamie and Nakida’s day in Hamilton was exactly that. Equal parts laid-back garden party and glamorous night out on the city, it was the kind of wedding that reminds me why I love telling stories through photography.
From Instagram Scroll to Wedding Bells
When Nakida first slid into my inbox in March 2025, I knew this wedding would be something special. She and Jamie had found me on Instagram while searching for Hamilton wedding photographers, and as true #HamOnt locals, they wanted their day to feel rooted in the city they love. Candid, cinematic, a little glamorous, and a lot of fun—that was the idea.
Their engagement shoot sealed the deal: three hours of red Mustang joyrides, tequila shots, and a picnic overlooking the escarpment. Think editorial spread meets spontaneous adventure.
A First Look Fit for the Screen
With years of experience photographing weddings across Hamilton, I’ve learned how to create space for authentic moments while still managing the flow of a day. Having a second shooter with me is one of the best tools for this—I sent Eden (Eden Abigal Photography) to the groomsmen while I joined the bridal party, ensuring nothing was missed and every moment was well spent. It paid off: Jamie’s modelling background shone in Eden’s portraits, while I captured Nakida gifting embroidered bridesmaid shirts (hand-stitched by herself), sweet moments getting into her dress with help from her mom, and lots of laughter!
At Fieldcote Memorial Park, we set up the first look in a shaded garden path. My role here was simple but vital: give direction only when needed, then step back and let their story unfold. Private vows, laughter, and tears—all documented in a way that felt natural and cinematic.
Garden Party Meets Downtown Chic
The ceremony itself was short, hilarious, and heartfelt. They had a court-wedding before the wedding day so that the ceremony could be officiated by the bride’s brother (who opened with a classic “Mawwage is what bwings us togwether twoday”). This sweet silliness set the tone for the rest of the celebration. I positioned myself and Eden to catch every angle—hug-filled entrances, joyful reactions, and the couple’s first kiss with perfect light spilling through the trees.
The reception at The Diplomat on King William Street was pure editorial chic. From the chic floral arrangements (crafted by the bride with florals from iFiori in Downtown Hamilton!) to the laughter-filled speeches, it was a feast for both the camera and the heart. Sunset portraits in the middle of the city gave us that extra cinematic touch—warm, stylish, and timeless.
Photography as Art
What I love most about weddings like Jamie and Nakida’s is the balance between documentary storytelling and editorial artistry. My expertise lies in reading the rhythm of a day—knowing when to disappear into the background and when to step in with direction. It’s this mix that allows couples to fully live their day while walking away with photos that feel authentic, artistic, and unforgettable.
If you’re looking for a Hamilton wedding photographer who blends candid storytelling with polished, creative expertise, I’d love to capture your story.
